Are you wondering what is Student Centered Math?

Student centered math is an approach to teaching math that puts your students in the driver’s seat of their learning. The instructional practices incorporate the Standards for Mathematical practice and the Social Emotional Standards. This approach allows your students to develop deep conceptual meaning of mathematics while developing a positive math identity.

Sometimes referred to as “new math” the approach to centering students thinking in math class is intended to help students develop meaning instead of mindlessly following steps!

You can find out more about Student Centered Math on this blog post where you’ll find the role of the student and the teacher as well as a full description.
