Does any of this sound like you?

You went into teaching because you love to help kids. You see your main goal to help students. What if I told you that most of the time the “the help” we give students is actually preventing them from learning. Often our help takes away the rigor of the problem or task, before we even let students attempt on their own. What if I told you there is a better way!

A way to support our students that allows them to build their capacity to do hard things. A way to offer support after students have pushed themselves to try the strategies they know. Then, giving them a question or prompt to push them to continue to work through the struggle.

Gone are the days of giving students the step-by-step plan to work through every problem. Let’s stop “helping” students mimic us and start helping them develop as problem solvers and thinkers!
